What we can help you with

The American Service Dog Foundation is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) based in Newark, Ohio. We find dogs with the right temperament — from Ohio shelters and from owners who donate a personal dog for evaluation — fund professional training, and place fully trained service dogs free of charge with people with disabilities. Because our team is small, telling us up front what you need helps us route your message to the right person quickly.

Applying for a service dog

If you or a family member has a documented disability that a trained dog could assist with — mobility and balance support, retrieval, medical alert, or psychiatric task work for PTSD and anxiety — start with our application. It gives us the detail we need about your daily challenges, household, and living situation. Every placement is different, and not every applicant is approved; we only move forward when the match is genuinely right for both the person and the dog. Donations, matching gifts, and sponsorships

Professionally trained service dogs cost tens of thousands of dollars to produce, and recipients pay nothing. Donations cover veterinary care, equipment, and months of professional training. Use our donation page for one-time or monthly gifts, or email us about employer matching programs, sponsoring a specific dog, donor-advised fund grants, or year-end acknowledgment letters. We are a registered 501(c)(3), EIN 86-2962306, and gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Volunteering, fostering, and partnerships

We rely on foster homes and puppy raisers across Central Ohio who can give a dog in training a stable home and safe exposure to everyday life. We also welcome help at community fundraisers, plus shelter partners, veterinary practices, trainers, and local businesses who want to support our work.
